" HOTEL REVIEW : DOMUS BALTHASAR Design Hotel in PRAGUE "

Our stay in Prague was one of the most memorable to date.
We chose an accommodation that is location wise and near to every must-see sights that we needed to see.

Hotel Domus Balthasar is right at the heart of Charles Bridge *Karluv Most*.
Having been to this city almost a decade ago,
walking the bridge, overlooking the the Vltava River was riveting and something I'd never forget.
It's like the Pont des Arts of Paris.
Actually, the only good thing I remember about this city then.
So, choosing our stay wasn't as difficult as I wish it would be.
We booked our reservations, 2 months in advance.
Before the details though, Let me walk you through what happened the day we arrived in Prague.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That early morning from Nürnberg,
we took the IC shuttle Bus all the way to Prague's main railway station, called Hvlani Nadrazi.
The ticket costs 19 euros.
** If you booked earlier, you can get it cheaper. **

DSCN0664

this is the { Bus Stop } Nürnberg train station, the assigned bus comes on time and is best if you arrive 30 minutes earlier.

We were concerned with our luggage and commuting the Metro was a bit of a hassle.
So we hired a local taxi service instead, * provided by the hotel * for a fee of 15 euros.
The driver was helpful and courteous, best of all, he did arrive on time.
He held out a card with our name on it, and i think it was quite obvious that it was us, as we were the only Asians on that bus. ^-^

DSC 1214
Here's our very helpful driver who lugged two of our heavy luggage all the way up to our room.

DSC 1723
The hotel is at the corner, the one with the Salmon-Peach trimmings, there's a money exchange station beside it and Antique souvenir store.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The main door has an automated key card but also comes with a set of keys, provided by the hotel.
The reception is not 24 hours, it is only until 12 midnight, but they leave you these emergency numbers just in case...

DSC 1713

We were greeted by a cheery and hospitable receptionist,
who instantly welcomed us with a smile and a chirpy, upbeat voice.
She gave us a handful of details * maps, restos nearby, holiday what nots* and a quick history of the building,
a tour of the place up to the attic room.

Prepare... to climb...
less than a hundred steps before you reach the top floor.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The stairs are clearly not for the faint-hearted , especially those suffering from vertigo.
But once we were inside the room, it was all worth it.

DSC 1220
The attic room was Immaculate.
In a word, it was just "picture-perfect."
We couldn't ask for anything more. ^-^

I love the attention to detail...
two mini chocos for us. ~how sweet! ~ ^0^

There are *I think* 10 rooms for you to choose.
I initially wanted the mid-range room, large windows, bigger space and directly overlooking the Karluv Most *Charles Bridge* view.
But sister Pepperoni thought we should try the attic room instead, just for the fun of it.
I was adamant at first, but since the the price was less expensive compared to the other rooms, I caved in.

DSC 1222

It was actually quite spacious inside, we chose our side of niche and immediately fell on the bed. ^-^

I like the handy A/C but I'm not a fan of heating ventilation.
Coming from a hot and humid country, I always felt suffocated when the heater is turned on.

While most of the hotels and B&B's don't offer air conditioning during winter, this one does and it was just what we need.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DSC 1216

Unfortunately, I couldn't say the same thing about the bathroom.
The photo speaks for itself.
For 4 days, we endured this bathroom fixture, It was badly placed.

but with a nicely decorated tree, you forgot you had that bathtub dilemma.

20141224 153615
On Christmas eve, we received a pack of cookies with a matching note. It was such a nice gesture.

A few remarks -*

1 - The room has a good ambiance, but during summer, because of the heat and humidity,
I think it might be a bit claustrophobic, thankfully though, they have a portable air conditioning.

2- The height of the room might be a problem for some.
The bathroom where the bathtub is located was the most disappointing of all.
But one can't complain because this is an old house that has been recently refurbished for modern use.

3- The attic rooms are not for everyone, esp. when you're afraid of heights,
the flight of stairs are going to murder your otherwise tired feet from all the walking and sightseeing,
and the last thing you need to do is to climb a hundred to get into your room.

4- Prepare your things in order before you leave the room.

e.g I have a bad habit of not checking my things before I leave. *I know, I know* , I tend to be forgetful sometimes.
So, Just as we were about to leave the front door, I forgot to bring the camera with me, the next thing I know, it was the coat.
Yup, I climbed all the way back up, panting and regretting badly why I chose a room in the attic.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* BALCONY *

With a view overlooking the shingled roofs, the small domes and spires, the bridge and the tower.
It was beautiful and it's not an ordinary view I wake up to.

* FOOD *

Breakfast was included, so, every morning, we would go to the reception desk and gave us these laminated voucher cards.

DSCN0818

The breakfast area is just next door to the Hotel called Bagels.

DSC 2251

Breakfast treats were abundant, Hot and Cold were available.
Aside from this, you have a daily choice between : Pancakes and Jam OR Eggs and Bacon.

DSC 2254

Of course, I chose the latter, I have a soft spot for Bacons. ^-^

DSCN0832

Yes, a hearty meal goes a long way.

20141224 082229

And a cup of Cappuccino makes all the stress go away. ^-^

DSCN0828

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall, our 4 days-3 nights was a remarkable stay.
The service, safety, location and valur for money was great.
I would love to stay again in a heartbeat.

" HOTEL REVIEW : 25hours Hotel Vienna at Museumsquartier "

Vienna wasn't really part of the plan.
In fact, I preferred if it were Prague or Poland instead.
This city wasn't much of a favorite, but It's not like I don't like it either.
But Pepperoni suggested that we should include this for the 2nd leg of our trip.

* She's actually the brain when it comes to geography and all that train schedules, she's my handy compass. * ^0^
While I do most of our Hotel bookings and itineraries.
simply because I'm a bit picky. ^-^
I mean I travel a thousand miles away,
the least I could do was get our accommodations in order right ?!.

The best part about Vienna was actually this hotel,
but the rest of it was just comme-çi , comma-ça.
This next hotel review is probably one of the newest and chic hotels we've stayed.
It's centrally located near the Museums Quarter area.
A short walk and you're in some of the most important sights in Vienna.
By Metro, you alight at Volkstheater station.
It's also convenient by Bus or Taxi..

Originally,
I would have loved to stay near the St. Stephen's Cathedral area,
Although, it's a bit crowded and touristy.
Still, I did find some cool hotels and B&B's to fit in.
But it was either too pricey or there wasn't any availability.

I really couldn't find a place where the price and location fits all.
It was luck when I stumbled into this.
A bit skeptical at first,
Museum area is good maybe a bit quiet,
there's a small park overlooking the hotel, which again means,
the place may be dark to walk at night.
It requires a bit of walking from and to the the Metro * Volkstheater * station and
it doesn't offer complimentary brekky.

Hello, 25hours hotel.

DSCN0695

We arrived 2-ish in the afternoon,
after our train escapade. SEE last posts here. ^0^

Outside, the welcome sign says: Come as you are, which reminds me of my fave Nirvana's song... ^0^
Among the doppelganger architectures is this modern façade.

DSC 0504

The space is quirky and the design details eclectic,
It exudes such warmth and cozy ambience.
Needless to say,
I love its interiors from head to toe,
and what you see in its official website is clearly not photoshopped.

Stand out Posters.
ps: the breads and tea trays were actually from the Breakfast room.
the Breakfast buffet was a bit pricey for our taste, so we didn't try that.

DSCN0694

The bicycles here are free of charge.
You can inquire at the concierge.
Sadly, we haven't had the chance to try it,
My sister doesn't know how to bike. :(

DSC 0497

The Geeky area.
The wi-fi was up to par and the speed was reliable.
No iffy connections or timed-out,
I could download a couple of video files in a matter of minutes! ^0^

The concierge who took care of us gave us a room on the 2nd floor.
We would've preferred a higher floor, since that's what we have requested.

This is the hallway area.
The A - Z postcards keepsake.

IMG 9290

We booked a room called the: M+ size - a bigger space with a view overlooking the street.
Every room has a designed theme.
I hate being placed at the rear side or inner courtyard ,
but I know some would prefer less noise and more privacy.
I also hate a view with no-view! * a bricked wall or a construction site*
Luckily this time,
the request has been granted !
as soon as we entered the room,
it put a *smile* into our face. ^0^
I think I just let you guys see what it looks like.

this is what I love the most about my stay...

The view = priceless.

This is the view from the other side.
You may have noticed that I've encircled that portion in the middle.
I think , this is one of the highlights that gets overlooked.

DSCN0647

There is an über convenient TRAM stop just right outside the hotel.
I mean, how accessible is that ?!
I couldn't get hold of a decent tram stop,
so this is the bigger version of what it looks like.

IMG 6610

This RING TRAM - can be your official sightseeing tour guide.
It is also an efficient way to get to know the city.
Take number #49 Dr. Karl Renner Ring stop.
The waiting time is between 10-15 minutes, depending on traffic.
You can also buy 24 , 48, or 72 hours all-you-can ride tickets.
I think it's way cheaper than buying solo ticket, Vienna is a big city.
This Number #49 tram will circle along Volkstheater and its environs. or * The Inner Stadt area*

I hope you enjoyed this series as much as I did. ^0^
