" Barcelona Ciclo Tour "

another way to explore the streets of Barri Gothic is to rent a bike.


there's a company that offers one called Barcelona Ciclo Tour.
you can easily visit their website,

it would've been nice to try the biking sort,
but too bad, Pepperoni (little sister) doesn't know how to .^-^


but the cobblestone pavement and structured arches were what
drew us in the first place.
there's an old charm in this nice street.

" Twilight "

It was between Sant Sever and La Seu when I caught this
couple and the timing seemed perfect.




taken before the eve of Christmas,
though most of the high end shops were closed,
That didn't stop us ( tourists ) from wandering
around the Barri Gotíc area.

Barri Gothic- Jaume- BCN 

" Carlos Ruiz Zafon "

By now, you would've known that Zafon is
one of my favorite writers, alongside Arturo Perez Reverte
and Ildefonso Falcones.
I chance upon his book at a 2nd hand bookstore,
not knowing who he was then,
I got intrigued by the title- The Shadow of the Wind,
his character you'd hate to love and love to hate,
the shadow of forgotten books and
finally decided to read it.



His book inspired me to see the other side of Barcelona,
its enigmatic charm especially the gothic quarter.

Ironcally though, he currently lives in Los Angeles,
where he's more inspired,
as he felt trapped when he's in BCN.
His third book is on the works.

This guy was obviously preoccupied with what he's doing.



From the looks of it,
I think he bought something from the bookstore.

El Raval-BCN

" Muralla Romana "

The name may transport you somewhere in Rome, but no.

Opposite the Collegi d'Arquitectes are two Roman Towers that can't be missed.
( take note of its height )
It was renovated in the 12th century.





There is also a niche on the left side, that holds the statue of Sant Roch,
believed to ward away the plague.
Infront of this, is an arch of the Roman Aqueduct that was constructed in 1958.

" Barri Gótic "

the alleyways of Barri Gótic can be such a maze,
every corner and turn leads to another exit.
It's hard to get by without a map and
It took us sometime to familiarize the area, which can be quite confusing. ^0^



This beautiful archway is along Carrer del Bisbe, the most photographed called the Bridge of Sighs.
It is actually a 20th century addition, built to look old in 1928.



The protruding gargoyles, (which I posted earlier) and its gothic inspired details makes you turn your head upside down.

" Barcino "

These quirky letterings places you along Plaça Nova,
just a few feet away from Barcelona Cathedral, Palau de la Generaitat and Ajuntament.
When you see this sign, then for sure, you're in the Barri Gothic area.



It was designed by poet Joan Brossa in 1944.
It's also right infront of Colegi d'arquitectes.



I reckon there are flea markets that takes place infront of BCN Cathderal,
and a christmas market during December.

a pompeii library perhaps?! ^0^

There's ton of them here in BCN, mostly in Catalan or Spanish that is.




I could spend hours in a bookshop and browse all its new edition as well as old.
I can't get enough of them that I always buy at least one book whenever I travel.

among the hordes of tourist,
there he was, along the streets of Jaume.

this is one of them.
